Sheri Mortla
I have over 30 years of experience working with children and their families and use an eclectic approach to address the whole child, integrating neurodevelopment and motor skills with components of feeding and swallowing to help improve functional feeding skills. I meet my patients at Untethered in a play based environment, and absolutely love collaborating with parents and other professionals to help little ones and their families to thrive! I am originally from the Bay Area, and moved to the beautiful, Central Coast almost 30 years ago. I attended San Jose State University many moons ago, earning a degree in Occupational Therapy with a minor in Psychology. I also have a Advanced Practice Certification for Swallowing Assessment and Intervention.
I love to learn and stay up to date with best practices, and have taken extensive continuing education courses in the area of pediatrics, with a focus on neurodevelopmental treatment, feeding and swallowing (including babies and children with complex medical needs, oral motor and sensory feeding difficulties, tethered oral tissues, and transition from tube to oral feedings), positioning for function, and strategies for successful mealtimes.
My trainings include: NDT Certification in the Treatment of Children with CP, Pre and Post Frenectomy Oral-Motor and Full Body Therapy, Beckman Oral-Motor and Oro-Facial Deep Tissue Release, SOS Approach to Treatment, Tongue-Tie in the Breastfeeding Infant, Transitioning Tube to Breastfeeding, and TummyTime! Method.
Outside of work, I love to spend time outdoors gardening, hiking, and paddleboarding. I also enjoy baking, walking down to the bay with my goofy pup (almost 10 years old, but still acts like a pup), Coop, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
